BELONGING

“Unusually strange and beautiful… Finnish melancholy and babbling eccentricity…” are some of the phrases the press wrote to describe Copenhagen based fin Johanna Elinas debutalbum. Now she is back with a new genre-crossing album “Belonging” (Eclipse/ DME).

In a time where the jazz scene overflows with bright female voices, Johanna Elina is a different encounter with her alto voice. But it’s not just her voice that explores the dark and deep. The album lyrics covers stories of contradictions, birth and death, alienation and belonging.

The music can be characterized as electronic soundscapes and experimental melodies letting each song be open and an individual unit.

Belonging was Nominated for a Danish Grammy 2016 for a best vocal album of the year.

Iceland with Birgir Jón Birgisson (e.g. Sigur Rós.)

“I always want to work with the best people I can find. I don’t want to compromise. I needed to find a person who can understand my universe and ideas, go away from my daily routines” Therefore the new album “Belonging” is mixed at Sundlaugin studio in Iceland, with Birgir Jón Birgisson. Birgir has been working with many great international artists e.g. Sigur Rós, and has helped Johanna develop her personal sound and expressionon on the album.
